What is Taiji (Tai Chi)English
Taiji is a centuries old Chinese internal martial art, based upon the nature filosophy of the Dao. All that happens is the result of the two opposite forces Yin and Yang. Qigong also uses internal energy. But the goal is health. Taiji expresses itself in slow, gracious movements. They improve flexibility and strength. With breathing and focus the practitioner of taiji tries to achieve a balance within and without. The result is a feeling of well being. Only in the second halve of the 19th century came about the present Yang style taiji through the efforts of Yang Cheng Fu. Chinese people as result of the opium wars wanted to improve their health. There was also a renewed sense for national identity because of the increasing aggression of the colonial powers. |
